Hotspot: Lunchbar De Viking
Firstly I would like to wish you a very happy, healthy and challenging 2016! I hope you have enjoyed the holidays together with friends and family!
I start the new year by sharing a new hotspot in Nijmegen! Another new lunch and coffee bar was opened in Nijmegen and it is even in my favourite street: de lange Hezelstraat. You find lots of little shops and lunch hotspots here and now also De Viking.
Two weeks ago I brought my testpanel from ‘Amsterdam’ Coraly and Stefano there and we tried this new hotspot together.
When we entered we immediately noticed the pleasant atmosphere. Lots of lights, plants and wooden tables and chairs (which reminded us of our high school time a bit). There was a beautiful wooden sofa and in the rest of the interior you also saw a lot of wood.
Because of the name I expected a place with a robust manly look and that was true. They did that with details in the interior, such as animal heads on the wall, but it was also visible on the menu: ‘manly’ dishes with a lot of meat.
They serve beer bread from Brood op de Plank. This is made with baking soda, flour, salt and beer. On the menu they have sandwiches with chicken thigh, pork belly, meatball, mackerel and currywurst. They also serve toast, soups, salads and have a breakfast bar.
We tried the beer bread and got a slice of bread with a rich topping. I ate a sandwich with smoked mackerel, egg, avocado and wasabi mayonaise. Stefano tried the Asian prepared chicken thigh and Coraly the meatball with grilled zucchini.

All three of us enjoyed our sandwiches a lot and the ingredients on the sandwiches go together well! The coffee tasted good too!
Yes, De Viking is definitely worth a try! I want to go back for sure to try their breakfast bar.
You can find the lunchbar at de Lange Hezelstraat 104 in Nijmegen.
