    • Hi Sharyn! Of course, probably you have accidentally subscribed to the Dutch list instead of the English one. I have changed your subscription to the English e-maillist 🙂

I’m trying to find out how to eat when traveling abroad. What to do when eating in restaurants.
Dealing with IBS and eating in a strange country would seem difficult.i don’t want to end up staying in my hotel room with stomach problems.

I didn’t think spelt was a low Fodmap flour but you have several recipes using it. Can you explain?

  • I have just had to start on a low fodmap diet, my husband is very understanding and supportive. But i would like to continue giving him (and me!) yummy vegitarian meals. I hve just found your wonderful website filled with great recipes and wondered if you have a recipe book out or how i could download the recipes on your website please.
    Thank you for being you!

I am happy to hear that you like the recipes Sallie! I don’t have a recipe book unfortunately. But you can print recipes from my website. If you scroll all the way down to the recipe card of a recipe you will see a print button there.

Hi Karlijn, is it possible to replace brown sugar with maple syrup in a cake recipe? For example your delicious low fodmap carrot cake? We’re having a maple syrup themed potluck party but Id like to make your carrot cake as it’s one of the best gluten-free and lactose free cake recipes I know. Thanks!

    Hi Karlijn,
Thank you for sharing your story. I hope you are feeling better. I have had IBS for the past twenty years, the last few being much worse. I am woken with pain round 1 am and 4am and am up for an hour with a hot water bottle and walking round the house !! I have seen many Dr’s and have countless tests and am then told they can’t help me. All tests are clear,I appear to be very healthy. I am 174cms tall and now weight 49 kgs. Find it very difficult to put on ANY weight. Have tried FODMAps with little effect. Know my triggers points are onion and garlic. Have been following “stuff that works” for about two years hearing how others cope. There are so many terrible cases out there all in the too hard basket and labelled IBS.! I enjoyed reading your journey ,you sound such a nice person, hope you can find a cure. Stuff that works is about people world wide writing about their journey and how they are coping with medication, diet or whatever gives them relief . Best healthy wishes. Alison

    • Karlijn says:

Thank you so much for your kind words Alison. It is so difficult that everybody’s story with IBS is different and the solution to the symptoms usually as well. This really makes it a puzzle. I hope you will find something that works for you as well and that you will feel better soon!

I cook croquetten but do them in my easy cook so no deep frying. Sometimes they still give me an upset stomach.
Also last night had potatoes au gratin and had diarrhea several times later in the evening. Why is that?

  • Colleen says:

If I introduce a food from a particular group and have no symptoms, does that mean that I shouldn’t have symptoms with all the other foods from that group either?

    • Karlijn says:

Hi Colleen, yes for most FODMAP groups that is expected to be the case. For the fructans group it is possible that you react to for example onion, but don’t react to wheat. That is why you have to do four tests in that group.

    Hello Karlijn
I want to make your peanut butter cookies but the quantities are unclear to me as I am not familiar with cup sizes. Are you able to give the peanut butter amount in tablespoons please?
    Thank you
    Melanie
